Text on a Path

Typing with Text on a Path

1. Create a path with the Pen, Line, or Pencil tool. Don’t worry if it has a stroke or fill applied.
2. Select the Type tool.
3. Cross over the start of the path.
4. Look for an I-bar with a squiggle to appear (which indicates that the text will run along the path) and click.
5. The stroke and fill of the path immediately change to None.
6. Start typing.
7. The text runs along the selected path.
8. Choose Window→Type→Paragraph and change the alignment in the Paragraph panel to reposition where the text falls on the path. Or
9. Switch to the Selection tool and drag the first of the three I-bars that appears. This allows you to freely move the text on that path. The path in was created with the Pen tool.
10. Flip the text to the other side of a path by clicking and dragging the I-bar under or over the path.

Your Objective:
Think about a song that you enjoy. Find the lyrics online, it can be a song from a tv show or your favorite artist. Find an image online that correlates with that song. Make sure the image you find is at least 800 px. Also look for an image that doesn’t have an overwhelming amount of detail.

• You are going to illustrate a picture of a song that you enjoy using only the song lyrics.
• Document size is 11x17" Portrait or Landscape
• You will use text on a path to trace over the picture and recreate a new image but with only text.
• Be creative and make sure you vary your text size & colors.
• Your images should correlate with your lyrics.
• Play around with color & be creative!
